This charity rehabilitates docile donkeys, rescuing them from difficult backgrounds, to receive care and to provide therapy to children with a range of difficulties.
We have been able to play and ride there twice a week during the summer; There is always a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. It is spotlessly clean and well resourced with toys, an outdoor play area and a sensory room which my boys love.
When I first heard about donkey assisted therapy I was extremely sceptical but having witnessed it, I can see the physical, educational and social benefits that our Houdini receives through relevant learning activities while riding. The movement not only improves his balance but also his mood and I am convinced that he has learnt his colours from the activities that go on in the arena. Sometimes, he will even speak a few words during these sessions. It is such a godsend for parents of children with additional needs as it provides a safe haven where we can meet and feel normal. I really cannot recommend the talented staff and their work highly enough!
