Welcome to 2016. Better late than never! My new year's resolutions already lack any proper resolve. The "eat less, exercise more, get fit, change career" regime has so far failed to get beyond the planning stages. The deaths of several "national treasures" in January have served as a bitter reminder of my age and mortality. No one gets out of here alive so we might as well have a bloody good time!
1. Houdini really enjoyed Christmas. He recognised Santa and loved the lights and the coloured decorations. In fact, he loved it all so much that he was looking for "Christmas trees" when he noticed they were fast disappearing. After years of prompting, we are now regularly hearing him say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year!" in February.
2. After his most recent escape, the whole family has been prompting him to say, "My name is .... I live in ..............." with varying degrees of success. This has resulted in him learning other people's names. I cannot explain how amazing it is to see him point at me and say "My name is Mummy!" It has been such a long time coming but definitely worth the wait.
3. I am learning that living with a potential teenager is a new and strange experience. An alien seems to have moved in and along with the growth spurt, the love of Hollister and acne comes monosyllabic attitude! I am secretly hoping that if it kicks off early then it might be over sooner. I live in perpetual hope!
4. Our own "Middle Child Syndrome" seems to be subsiding somewhat and in its place is the kindest and funniest little dude for miles around. I don't think he actually realises how funny he is but he helps restore some degree of sanity to the chaos of our home.
Love, light and laughter xxx
