This month we were lucky enough to take a day trip to Legoland, Windsor which my middle son said was "the best day of his life".
Little Houdini especially loved the Atlantis ride, a pseudo-submarine from inside which you can view a variety of marine creatures. He was so enthralled that he said "fantastic" and pulled to go on several times more.
Our visit was made possible thanks to Merlin's Magic Wand who supplied us with complementary tickets for the whole family and a car parking pass, leaving us to pay for travel and accommodation. A simple online application with some supporting evidence uploaded, was all that was required to be awarded tickets and there are many other theme park tickets to choose from. Families of children with Additional needs can apply annually and MMW is especially encouraging applicants who have never applied before and also from NI who are currently under-subscribed.
We chose Legoland because 2 of our boys had never been . Lego is something they all enjoy and due to frequent advertising on kids tv channels, our middle boy was desperate to go.
And Legoland didn't disappoint either. We were able to use our blue badge to park near the entrance and had borrowed a Maclarens Major Elite buggy from a friend to keep Houdini safe.
On arrival, we were directed to "Guest Services" armed with our diagnoses letters and without any problem, were given 2 fast track passes with 10 tokens on each. We didn't need to queue for any rides but were able to enter through the exit gate which helped us out a lot and reduced potential meltdowns considerably.
I would definitely recommend Merlin's Magic Wand and Legoland to anyone with children on the spectrum. We enjoyed a rare family day out with fun for everyone!
